In a significant breakthrough, the Etawah police have apprehended a young couple for allegedly orchestrating a series of thefts resulting in the loss of jewellery valued at a staggering Rs 30 lakh. The arrests took place in the Bakewar police station area, bringing to light a crime spree that unfolded over half a year.
Theft Uncovered After Victim's Return from Delhi
The case came to light when the victim, the aunt of the 19-year-old female accused, returned to her home from Delhi on November 19. Upon checking her safe, she discovered that her precious gold and silver ornaments were missing. She immediately reported the theft to the police, leading to the registration of a formal case on November 21.
Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava stated that investigations swiftly confirmed the jewellery had been stolen not in one instance, but several times over a period of six months. The systematic nature of the theft pointed towards an insider's involvement.
Investigation Reveals Lover's Pressure and Modus Operandi
Police investigations peeled back the layers of the crime, revealing a troubling narrative. The 19-year-old woman allegedly stole the valuables from her aunt's safe at the behest of her 24-year-old lover. The man, who worked as a private security guard in Rajkot, Gujarat, was reportedly pressuring her to provide funds and jewellery for their wedding arrangements.
Over the months, she allegedly pilfered items on multiple occasions, handing them over to her partner. The police noted that the male accused was frequently seen around the Bakewar police station area, which later aided in his identification.
Dramatic Arrest as Duo Planned to Flee
Acting on crucial intelligence gathered from surveillance footage and informers, the police received a tip-off that the couple was making plans to escape the area. A police team swiftly moved to intercept them.
The operation culminated in a raid at the Aheripur intersection, where the duo was successfully apprehended. During interrogation, both individuals confessed to their roles in the elaborate theft. The police action prevented their planned flight from the district.
The successful operation was carried out under the direction of SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava and SP Rural Shrishchand. The team included Station Officer Bakewar Vipin Malik, Sub Inspector Dhirendra Kumar, Sub Inspector Swadesh Kumar, and other dedicated police personnel.
This case highlights a distressing trend of familial trust being breached for financial gain, driven by external pressure. The Etawah police's prompt response and use of technological and human intelligence ensured the culprits were brought to justice before they could vanish.
