Court Complex Death Reclassified as Murder in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Nearly a week after an unidentified youth was discovered dead within the Coimbatore combined district court complex, the Race Course police have reclassified the case as murder and intensified their investigation.

Initial Suspicion of Accidental Fall

The man, estimated to be around 35 years old, was found unconscious in a pool of blood inside the court complex on June 1. Initially, authorities suspected an accidental fall. However, based on preliminary findings and the postmortem report, the case is now being treated as murder.

CCTV footage from the vicinity initially showed the man walking along Gopalapuram Street and jumping over the rear compound wall of the court complex while being chased by a dog. Based on this evidence, police initially believed he might have tripped and suffered a fatal fall in the dark. A case of suspicious death was registered pending the autopsy report.

Postmortem Reveals Inconsistencies

The postmortem report later indicated that the forehead injury was not consistent with a fall and was likely caused by a sharp or heavy object. This prompted the police to alter the case to murder.

Ongoing Investigation

Investigators are now scrutinizing more CCTV footage from inside and around the court complex and collecting evidence to identify the assailant. They are also examining whether the victim entered the court premises after being attacked outside or if he was assaulted after climbing into the court complex.

The police are working to identify the victim and are exploring all possible leads to solve the case.
