A court in New Delhi on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Nida Khan, a key accused in the case involving alleged sexual harassment and forcible religious conversion at a Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) unit in Maharashtra's Nashik. The prosecution argued that her custodial interrogation was essential for the investigation.
Prosecution's Argument
Public prosecutor Ajay Misar stated, according to PTI: “The offence is a serious one. Nida Khan is one of the prime accused and therefore her custodial interrogation is necessary. The court rejected her bail application.”
Details of the Allegations
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Khan allegedly advised female employees to “dress and behave in accordance with Islamic traditions.” The petitioner, who is currently absconding, had sought pre-arrest bail citing her pregnancy. Police are conducting a search for Khan across various parts of Maharashtra.
Investigation by SIT
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Nashik Police is probing nine cases of alleged sexual harassment of female employees at the TCS Nashik unit by their male colleagues. The SIT has registered nine FIRs and arrested eight individuals, including a female operations manager. TCS has reiterated its “zero-tolerance policy” towards harassment and coercion in any form.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and the involvement of a major IT firm. The court's decision underscores the gravity of the charges and the need for a thorough investigation. The SIT continues its efforts to apprehend Khan and gather evidence to ensure justice for the victims.
