Woman Files Police Complaint Against Cousin for Leaking Private Photos and Issuing Threats
A woman residing in the Indira Nagar locality of Lucknow has taken legal action by filing a formal police complaint against her cousin. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, involves allegations of the accused leaking her private photographs on social media and subsequently intimidating and harassing her family members when she demanded the removal of the images.
Background and Relationship Details
The accused, identified as a resident of Agra, is a distant cousin of the victim. According to the complaint, the two have been in contact since 2013. Over time, the cousin began making frequent visits to Lucknow, where he started pressuring the woman for a physical relationship. When she firmly refused his advances and blocked his phone number to sever all ties, the situation escalated dramatically.
Escalation to Harassment and Privacy Breach
The conflict reached a critical point on February 23, when the accused uploaded the victim's private photographs along with pictures of her residence on Instagram without her consent. This act constituted a severe breach of privacy, causing significant distress to the woman. In her police statement, she detailed the subsequent threats, stating, "When I confronted him and demanded he take the photos down, he threatened to murder my father and brother."
Police Response and Legal Action
The Ghazipur Police, operating under the Indira Nagar jurisdiction, promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the victim's testimony and the digital evidence provided. The charges include stalking, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of a woman. A senior police official confirmed the registration of the case, noting, "We registered the case based on the victim's testimony and the digital evidence provided. Our teams are currently working to trace the accused in Agra." An investigation has been launched to locate and apprehend the accused.
This case highlights the growing concerns around digital privacy and the misuse of social media platforms for harassment. It underscores the importance of legal recourse in such situations, as authorities take steps to address the allegations and ensure justice for the victim.
