A wanted criminal was arrested in the national capital after a brief exchange of fire with the Delhi Police, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place late Sunday night in the outer Delhi area when a police team intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a routine patrol. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the police party, prompting the officers to retaliate. During the exchange of fire, one of the accused sustained a bullet injury in his leg and was overpowered by the police.
Arrest and Seizure
The injured accused was identified as a history-sheeter wanted in multiple cases of robbery and assault. The police recovered a country-made pistol and several live cartridges from his possession. His accomplice managed to flee the scene, and a search operation has been launched to nab him.
The arrested criminal was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently under police custody. A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act has been registered at the local police station.
Senior police officials have praised the team for their swift action and bravery in handling the situation. The investigation is ongoing to trace the absconding accused and ascertain the source of the illegal weapons.
