Gurgaon: An FIR was registered on Tuesday against an unidentified driver of a Toyota Innova in connection with a road accident that occurred on May 20, leaving a senior CRPF officer critically injured.
Accident Details
On the evening of the incident, Surendra Kumar, serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the Group Centre, CRPF, Neemuch, was travelling from Jaipur to Gurgaon via the Mumbai Expressway. Around 8 pm, before the Sohna Road exit, an Innova travelling in the adjacent lane suddenly swerved in front of his vehicle without giving any signal or turning on the indicator.
Kumar alleged that due to this abrupt manoeuvre, he collided with the Innova, causing his car to spin and crash into a roadside divider. The CRPF officer stated that the driver and another occupant exited the Innova but did not offer him any assistance, even though both appeared unharmed and were walking around. He described their behaviour as contrary to humane values.
Medical Treatment and Injuries
Passers-by helped Kumar out of his damaged vehicle. Officials from the highway authority and local police arrived at the scene, and Kumar was taken to Acropolis Hospital in Sohna for a medical examination and X-rays. According to his complaint, he sustained serious injuries to his chest and leg, along with significant bleeding near his eye. Due to the severity of his wounds, he was referred to Medanta Hospital, where he underwent surgery on his leg. Kumar informed the police that screws had to be inserted on one side of his ankle and a plate on the other.
Police Investigation
A police officer stated, We visited Kumar's home in Gurgaon Sector 46 on Tuesday after his discharge from hospital and recorded his complaint. The Bhondsi police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to rash and negligent driving causing injuries. Kumar noted the registration number of the Innova, and efforts are underway to identify the driver.
