Notorious Cybercriminal Escapes from Coimbatore Medical College Hospital
COIMBATORE: A notorious cybercriminal, who is facing more than 25 cases and was lodged in the central prison here, escaped on Friday night while undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. The accused, identified as N Bhimudu Ajith Kumar, 29, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was arrested by Tirupur North police in the last week of May after he was found involved in an altercation with a taxi driver in Tirupur.
Ajith Kumar was booked under sections 115(2), 296(B), 318(4), 351(3) of the BNS and was lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison under judicial custody. He was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on June 4. Around 7.45 pm on Friday, he told the policemen on duty that he wanted to go to the toilet. A policeman took him to the toilet and waited outside. Since he did not return, the policeman went inside to check. He found that Ajith Kumar had broken a cardboard partition in the toilet and escaped through a women's ward.
Police have launched a manhunt for him. According to police, Ajith Kumar had been arrested earlier in Andhra Pradesh in connection with granite and online fraud cases and was lodged in a prison in Guntur. He escaped while undergoing treatment in a government hospital there. Later, he entered Tamil Nadu and travelled to several places, including Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, and Velankanni, in taxis. He was arrested in Tirupur while he was involved in an altercation with a taxi driver. Police intervened and brought them in for inquiry, leading to Ajith Kumar’s identification and arrest.
