What Happened in Lucknow?
According to family members, Chunni Lal was picked up by RPF constables from the Charbagh railway station area on December 10. His family claims he was brutally tortured during interrogation about a suspected theft case.
"They beat him so mercilessly that he started vomiting blood," a family member stated. "When we saw his body, it was covered with bruises and injury marks."

The postmortem report confirmed multiple injuries on Chunni Lal's body, supporting the family's allegations of physical assault. Following public outrage and the family's persistent demands for justice, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has registered a murder case against four RPF constables.
Charges Filed Against Accused
- Murder charges under Section 302 of IPC
- SC/ST Act provisions invoked
- Four RPF constables identified and booked
- Investigation transferred to senior officials
Family's Fight for Justice
Chunni Lal's family, belonging to the Dalit community, has been protesting and demanding strict action against the accused personnel. "We want justice for my husband. These policemen cannot kill innocent people and get away with it," said his grieving wife.
The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of custodial violence in India, particularly involving marginalized communities. Human rights activists have called for immediate suspension of the accused personnel and a thorough, time-bound investigation.
Official Statements
Railway authorities have assured cooperation with the investigation while maintaining that proper procedures will be followed. "We are taking this matter very seriously. If our personnel are found guilty, strictest action will be taken," said a senior railway official.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has formed a special team to investigate the case, promising that justice will be delivered without any bias or delay.
