Daltonganj: Cousin Kills Tribal Girl, Then Dies by Suicide

Daltonganj Village Witnesses Brutal Murder-Suicide Tragedy

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, an 18-year-old tribal girl was brutally hacked to death by her own cousin in a village under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station in Daltonganj. The horrific crime unfolded in the early hours of Monday, leaving residents in a state of profound grief and disbelief.

Victim and Assailant Identified

The deceased has been identified as Khushbu Kumari, a young tribal woman whose life was tragically cut short. The assailant, her 23-year-old cousin Bittu Singh, allegedly took his own life shortly after committing the murder. According to police reports, Bittu Singh committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train between the Chiyanki and Kechki railway stations.

Discovery of the Bodies and Police Response

Khushbu Kumari's body was discovered in a room at her uncle's home in Chiyanki, bearing fatal wounds to the neck that suggest she died on the spot. Officer in charge of the Sadar police station, Lalji, confirmed that an axe believed to be the murder weapon has been seized as evidence. Approximately two hours later and roughly 2 kilometers away, Bittu Singh's body was found on the railway tracks by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), as stated by Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar Singh.

Motive Remains Unclear Amid Local Allegations

While police authorities have stated that the motive behind the murder is not yet clear and an investigation is underway, local residents have put forward a disturbing theory. Locals allege that Khushbu and Bittu were involved in a relationship that had turned sour, potentially leading to the violent outcome. This claim adds a layer of complexity to the case, though it remains unverified by official sources.

A police source involved in the probe highlighted a puzzling aspect of the incident: "Other members of the family, who were in the house, claimed they did not hear any noise. A probe is underway to find out how no one heard any cries." This raises questions about the circumstances surrounding the murder and whether there were any attempts to intervene or report the crime.

Legal and Medical Procedures Initiated

An FIR (First Information Report) had not been registered at the time of the initial reports, indicating that formal legal proceedings were still in the early stages. The bodies of both Khushbu Kumari and Bittu Singh have been sent to the Medinirai Medical College and Hospital for a comprehensive postmortem examination. This step is crucial for determining the exact causes of death and gathering forensic evidence that could aid the investigation.

The Sadar police station is leading the inquiry, with officers working to piece together the events that led to this double tragedy. The community awaits answers as authorities delve deeper into the case, hoping to bring clarity and justice to a situation marked by violence and loss.
