Davanagere Police Solve Major Burglary Case
In a significant breakthrough, police in Davanagere district have solved a major house burglary reported under the Harihar rural police station limits. During a targeted operation, officers apprehended two suspects and recovered stolen gold ornaments, cash, a motorcycle, and mobile phones, with a total estimated value of approximately Rs 58.5 lakh.
Details of the Incident
Superintendent of Police (SP) HT Shekar stated that on the night of May 18 and 19, Parikshit Naidu, a resident of Amaravathi colony under Harihar Rural police limits, had gone to a temple with his family. The accused, aware that the house would be locked, planned and executed the theft. “In their absence, the suspects allegedly broke in and fled with roughly 481g of gold jewellery and Rs 10,000 in cash,” he added.
Arrests and Recovery
The police arrested Srikanth, 30, and Ramesh, 27, both from Hosapete in Vijayanagara district. SP Shekhar informed that Srikanth has six previous theft cases registered in stations across Gadag, Davanagere, Haveri, Munirabad, and Hosapete, while Ramesh has two cases against him. “We have recovered 409.5g of gold jewellery, Rs 10,000 in cash, a Hero Honda motorcycle, and two mobile phones. The overall value of the recovered items is assessed at Rs 58,50,800,” he added.
Investigation Challenges
The SP noted that the investigation was challenging due to the absence of CCTV cameras in the area and a lack of direct witnesses. Police set up check posts at multiple locations and began checking vehicles. “In one such drive, two men on a motorcycle reportedly appeared uneasy after noticing police and attempted to escape. Suspecting something was wrong, the officers pursued and held them,” he shared.
