A shocking incident of public violence unfolded in Mohali when a 24-year-old man was brutally assaulted in broad daylight by a group of youths. The attack occurred near the busy Phase 10/11 traffic lights, leaving the victim with serious injuries.
Details of the Daylight Assault
The victim, identified as Vishal Behal, a resident of Phase 10 in Mohali, was heading towards Sector 46 on his scooter on November 24 around 1 pm. According to his police statement, another rider coming from the Mohali Club side attempted to hit his vehicle at high speed. When Vishal objected to this dangerous maneuver, the rider stopped, grabbed him, and summoned his friends.
Within minutes, four youths arrived in a black car and launched a merciless attack on Vishal. The assailants beat him up, with the car driver allegedly striking him on the head with a baseball bat. This blow caused serious injuries to the young man.
Rescue and Police Response
The violent situation was interrupted by the courageous intervention of a passerby, Gurdev Singh. He managed to rescue Vishal from the attackers, who allegedly threatened to kill the victim before fleeing the spot. Following the incident, a PCR team reached the location and rushed Vishal to the Government Hospital in Sector 32, Chandigarh, for treatment.
After recovering sufficiently, Vishal lodged a formal complaint with the police. Following an investigation, the police on Thursday registered a case under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Case Registered and Hunt for Accused
The Mohali police have booked five individuals in connection with the assault. The accused named in the FIR are Ramandeep Singh, Karanpreet Singh, Vishal, Harpreet Singh, and one unidentified youth. The case has been registered under BNS sections 115(2), 351(2), 191(3), and 190, which pertain to various offenses including voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
Law enforcement officials have confirmed that raids are being conducted to trace and arrest the accused. The brazen nature of the attack in a public area during the day has raised serious concerns about law and order in the locality.
