Mhow: A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his deaf-mute minor neighbour multiple times in the Pithampur industrial area. The accused, identified as Sandeep, reportedly sexually assaulted the girl four to five times inside her own home.
Crime Discovery
The incident came to light on June 3 when the victim’s parents noticed her unusually swollen abdomen. Using signs and gestures, they questioned their daughter, who broke down and identified Sandeep from a photograph shown by her father. Initially, the family remained silent due to fear of social stigma but later filed a formal complaint with the police.
Pithampur sector-1 police station in-charge Omprakash Ahir told TOI, “The man had sexually assaulted the girl multiple times. When shown a photograph of Sandeep by her father, she identified him as the perpetrator.”
Legal Action
Sandeep was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was arrested on Saturday.
Medical Examination and Statement Recording
The victim is currently undergoing medical examination. Since she cannot speak or hear, authorities have arranged for a sign language expert to accurately record her statement, Ahir added.
