Debt-Driven Murder: Woman Killed for Anklets in Gujarat

A horrific murder in Gujarat's Chhota Udepur district has been traced back to a desperate attempt to repay a debt. The victim, 75-year-old Dashri Bhil, was killed inside her home in Gadhboriyad village, Naswadi taluka, on Wednesday. The assailants struck her head with a blunt object, then severed her feet to remove her silver anklets before fleeing.

Motive Behind the Attack

Police investigations revealed that the primary accused, Ranjit alias Rango Bhil, had taken a loan to purchase a van but defaulted on two installments. In urgent need of money, he and his accomplice Bipin alias Viko Bhil targeted Dashri, knowing she wore heavy silver anklets. The stolen anklets, weighing approximately 1 kg and valued at around Rs 2.5 lakh, have since been recovered.

Discovery and Arrest

Family members grew suspicious when Dashri could not be located for an extended period. They discovered her body after forcing open the door. Her son, Atul Bhil, filed an FIR with Naswadi police. A joint operation by Naswadi police and the district's Local Crime Branch led to the arrest of both accused from nearby villages. Ranjit, a resident of Dholi Kotardi, had a prior theft case against him, while Bipin hails from Khadakiya.
