Dehradun Gangster Murder Probe Uncovers Massive Property Empire
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Jharkhand gangster Vikram Sharma in Dehradun, authorities have uncovered that Sharma had allegedly accumulated properties worth over Rs 100 crore in the city. Sharma had been residing in Dehradun since 2021 after being released from a Jharkhand jail on conditional bail.
Fatal Shooting and Immediate Police Response
The gangster was allegedly killed by three unidentified bike-borne shooters on Friday morning. Following the incident, IG Garhwal Rajeev Swaroop launched a comprehensive 15-day drive to verify the credentials of property dealers and individuals involved in the construction business across the region.
Police revealed that Sharma was also operating a stone crusher plant in Kashipur, located in Udham Singh Nagar district, adding another layer to his business activities in Uttarakhand.
Verification Drive Targets Property and Mining Sectors
"During the drive, credentials and background of property dealers and developers along with those involved in mining business are being thoroughly checked. Appropriate legal measures would be initiated if anything is found in violation of applicable laws," stated IG Swaroop on Sunday.
Regarding the investigation into the assailants, Swaroop confirmed that police teams have discovered "crucial evidence along with significant inputs about the motive behind the crime and those involved in it." He further emphasized, "We're in close coordination with our counterparts in Jharkhand to advance the investigation."
Suspected Motive and Key Suspect
Senior police officers have indicated they suspect Sharma was possibly killed by his protege, another feared gangster named Akhilesh Singh, in a dispute over the sharing of extortion money. Singh is currently incarcerated in Dumka Central Jail in Jharkhand, adding complexity to the interstate criminal connections.
Statewide Security Crackdown Initiated
Meanwhile, on Sunday, DGP Deepam Seth directed a statewide "intensive verification drive" to take strict action against suspicious individuals. A statement from the state police headquarters clarified, "During the drive, illegal foreign nationals, infiltrators and suspicious outsiders would be identified and necessary legal action taken against them. It would be conducted jointly by police, STF, SOG and LIU units."
This coordinated effort underscores the heightened security measures being implemented across Uttarakhand in response to the high-profile murder and the broader concerns about criminal activities infiltrating legitimate business sectors.
