The minor student bravely recounted that on the night of July 16, 2021, the teacher had taken her to his private room and subjected her to rape. In a further distressing revelation, she stated that when she attempted to report the incident to the female warden, the warden allegedly sided with the accused and instructed her to comply with his demands. The teacher also reportedly issued death threats against the girl and her mother to prevent disclosure of the crime.
Legal Proceedings and Acquittal of Warden
Acting swiftly on the complaint, police registered a case under IPC Section 376 (rape) and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities arrested both the teacher and the female warden, a resident of Meghalaya, in connection with the incident. During the court proceedings, the survivor's statement also referenced an alleged prior incident involving another student approximately five years earlier, claiming the teacher acted with the warden's assistance.
However, in a separate ruling, the court acquitted the female warden of charges under the POCSO Act and criminal conspiracy due to what was cited as a "lack of sufficient evidence" to substantiate her involvement.
