Six-Year-Old Girl Sexually Assaulted in Delhi's Bhajanpura, Two Boys Apprehended

In a deeply disturbing incident in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura, a six-year-old girl was recently sexually assaulted, allegedly by three boys aged between nine and sixteen years. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting urgent concerns about child safety in urban areas.

Police Action and Case Registration

A formal case was promptly registered under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, reflecting the gravity of the crime. Law enforcement authorities have apprehended two of the accused boys, while the eldest suspect, reportedly aged sixteen, fled to Bihar. Police teams are actively searching for him to ensure he faces legal consequences.

Protest by Family and Neighbours

The survivor's family and neighbours, outraged by the incident that occurred on the evening of January 18, blocked a road on Monday in a peaceful protest. This demonstration underscored the community's demand for justice and heightened security measures to protect children from such heinous acts.

Details of the Assault

According to police sources, the boys, who are neighbours of the girl, frequently played with her near her residence. On the fateful day, the girl was returning home from her aunt's house at around 7 pm when the boys allegedly lured her. A relative disclosed that the sexual assault took place on a nearby terrace, a location that should have been safe for children.

When the survivor returned home, she was bleeding, and her clothes were stained with blood, as recounted by her mother. The family immediately took her to a police station and then to a hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, the girl is currently reported to be in stable condition, though the psychological trauma may require long-term care.

Community Response and Voluntary Handover

In a notable act of responsibility, the mother of one of the accused boys visited the girl and expressed solidarity with her family. She reportedly stated that she stood by the survivor before voluntarily handing her son over to the police. This gesture, while small, points to the complex social dynamics at play in such neighbourhood incidents.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by young children and the critical need for robust enforcement of laws like the Pocso Act. Authorities must intensify efforts to apprehend the fugitive and ensure justice is served, while communities should foster environments where children can grow up safely and without fear.
