Lavkesh Bajaj, the owner of the Delhi bed-and-breakfast where a devastating fire killed 21 people, had been previously arrested in a case involving alleged forgery and illegal identity documents, authorities revealed on Friday.
Bangladeshi Link Under Scrutiny
Police investigations have uncovered that Bajaj allowed a Bangladeshi woman, along with her daughter and grandson, to use his Delhi address to obtain Indian documents, including Aadhaar cards and a passport. The revelation has drawn significant attention as investigators probe the deadly Paharganj fire and alleged licensing violations at the guesthouse.
Licensing Violations Found
Authorities have also found that the establishment's tea-and-snacks licence had expired months before the incident. The expired licence is among several violations being examined by the investigative team.
The fire, which broke out in the densely populated Paharganj area, claimed 21 lives and raised serious questions about safety compliance at budget accommodations in the national capital. Bajaj is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
