Family Accuses Police of Negligence in Delhi Biker's Tragic Death
The family of Kamal Dhyani, a biker who tragically died after falling into a 15-foot-deep pit in west Delhi's Janakpuri, has leveled serious allegations against the police, claiming authorities failed to assist them during a desperate overnight search. The incident, which occurred on Friday, has sparked a contentious dispute between the grieving relatives and law enforcement officials.
Desperate Search and Allegations of Police Inaction
According to Kamal's family and friends, they spent the entire night frantically searching for him, visiting multiple police stations in the area. They allege that despite repeated pleas for help, the police did not take adequate action, even as Kamal's phone continued to ring through the night, indicating his possible location. The family expressed frustration over what they perceive as a lack of urgency and support from the authorities during this critical time.
Police Response and Detailed Account of Efforts
In response to the allegations, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Sharad Bhaskar refuted the claims, stating that concerted efforts were made to trace the victim. He provided a detailed timeline of events, noting that Kamal's brother, Karan Dhyani, along with friends, approached the Vikaspuri police station at 1:35 am. They were informed that there was no record of any accident or medico-legal case under Kamal's name, nor any reporting of his bike number.
Since the last call from Kamal originated from the District Centre, the group proceeded to the Janakpuri police station around 2:50 am to report him missing. There, they met Sub-Inspector Awant, who traced the missing person's mobile location to near Possangipur Park in Janakpuri. Bhaskar emphasized that Kamal's details, photograph, and vehicle information were promptly circulated to the West District Control Room, SHOs' group, and the Janakpuri police station WhatsApp group to aid in the search.
Search Operations and Tragic Discovery
Police personnel, including HC Ramkesh, Constable Tejpal, and DHG Vikas, along with family members, conducted extensive searches in the park and nearby areas, including parking spaces and colonies, based on the mobile location. However, they were unable to locate Kamal or his vehicle during this operation.
The tragic turn came around 8 am when a PCR call was received at the Janakpuri police station regarding a man lying in a pit on Joginder Singh Marg. Bhaskar stated that the victim was extracted from the pit with the assistance of DFS staff and rushed to Deen Dayal Hospital in Hari Nagar, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The pit, measuring 15 feet in depth, is believed to have been the site of the fatal accident.
