Security agencies investigating the devastating Delhi blast that claimed twelve lives have uncovered a chilling serial bomb plot targeting multiple cities across India. The explosion near the historic Red Fort area was not an isolated incident but part of a meticulously planned conspiracy to execute coordinated attacks in four different urban centers.
The Mastermind and Explosive Procurement Network
According to investigative sources, the plot was orchestrated by Dr Umar Nabi and his associates – Dr Muzammil, Dr Adeel, and Shaheen. The group managed to accumulate 2600 kg of NPK fertilizer and 1000 kg of ammonium nitrate – sufficient raw materials to manufacture multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for targeting various cities.
The suspects employed deceptive tactics, posing as farmhouse owners to procure the explosive materials worth approximately ₹3 lakh from suppliers in Gurugram and Nuh. The procurement chain extended across multiple locations including Faridabad, Gurugram, and Saharanpur, with Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai frequently visiting fertilizer dealers in Faridabad to gradually collect materials over three to four months.
Financial Backing and Expanded Terror Capabilities
Investigators have revealed that the terror cell jointly raised around ₹20 lakhs in cash, with each member contributing to the fund. This substantial amount was handed over to Dr Umar Nabi and utilized for procuring explosive materials intended for IED preparation.
Beyond explosives, the group enhanced their lethal capabilities by purchasing rifles and cartridges from Srinagar with assistance from their handlers, including one individual codenamed 'Ukasha'. This indicates the group was preparing for multiple modes of attack.
Serial Blast Strategy and Vehicle Bombs
Intelligence agency sources confirmed that the suspects were planning to prepare two more old vehicles similar to the i20 used in the Red Fort blast, each loaded with explosives to expand their targets. The eight identified suspects had planned to move to four cities in groups of two, with each team carrying multiple IEDs for simultaneous attacks.
Following the explosion, authorities have seized multiple vehicles including an Ecosport and a Brezza while continuing to search for other vehicles potentially involved in the conspiracy.
In a significant breakthrough, DNA testing confirmed that Dr Umar Un Nabi was the individual who carried out the Delhi blast near Red Fort. Forensic evidence showed his leg became trapped between the steering wheel and accelerator during the explosion, and his DNA sample matched with his mother, providing conclusive identification.
The investigation continues to unfold as security agencies work to dismantle the entire network and prevent further attacks, with the scale of procured materials indicating the potential for massive casualties had the full conspiracy been executed.
