West Delhi Burglary Cracked: 22-Year-Old Arrested, Jewellery Worth Rs 75 Lakh Recovered

In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have apprehended a 22-year-old man in connection with a high-value burglary in Punjabi Bagh, West Delhi. The arrest comes just a week after gold and silver ornaments, estimated to be worth between Rs 75 lakh and Rs 90 lakh, along with Rs 4.5 lakh in cash, were stolen from a residential property.

Details of the Burglary Incident

The case unfolded when a cable TV operator residing in Madhuban Enclave reported the theft to the authorities. According to the complainant, he had left his home with his family on Friday evening to attend a wedding. Upon their return on Saturday morning, they discovered that the iron grill of a window had been forcibly broken and the lock of an almirah was open.

The victim alleged that the burglars made off with a substantial haul, including gold ornaments, approximately 3 to 4 kilograms of silver articles, and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash. This incident sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Police Investigation and Key Findings

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar provided insights into the investigative process. "Local inquiry and analysis of CCTV footage revealed that two individuals with muffled faces entered the house at 03:17 am and exited at 03:50 am after committing the burglary," he stated.

Through diligent intelligence gathering, the police identified the suspects as Shankar, aged 42, and his nephew, Manish, aged 22. A raid was conducted at their residence, where officers encountered Meenu, Shankar's 38-year-old wife. During questioning, Meenu disclosed that the duo had returned home early on Saturday morning with the stolen valuables.

Recovery of Stolen Items and Arrests

The police search yielded significant recoveries from the suspects' home. Authorities seized over 3 kilograms of silver, 200 grams of gold, and Rs 80,499 in cash. Following this discovery, Meenu was taken into custody.

Meenu cooperated with the investigation, revealing the whereabouts of her nephew, Manish. This led to his subsequent arrest. From Manish, an additional 200 grams of gold were recovered, further bolstering the case against the accused.

In total, the police have recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at around Rs 75 lakh, along with Rs 80,000 in cash. It was also revealed that Meenu earns her livelihood by selling artificial jewellery door-to-door, adding an intriguing layer to the case.

Previous Arrest and Case Background

Interestingly, this is not the first arrest in connection with this burglary. Prior to Manish's apprehension, his aunt had already been arrested by the police. This indicates a deeper involvement of family members in the criminal activity, highlighting the complexities of the investigation.

The swift action by the Delhi Police has not only led to the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen valuables but also underscores their commitment to tackling property crimes in the capital. The case continues to be under investigation as authorities work to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice.
