Major Burglary in West Delhi: Teenager and Minors Nabbed for Rs 1.2 Crore Theft
In a significant crackdown, Delhi Police have arrested an 18-year-old and apprehended two minors in connection with a high-value burglary in West Delhi's Janakpuri area. The incident, which occurred last week, involved the theft of valuables estimated at approximately Rs 1.2 crore from a combined shop and residential premises in Possangi Pur village.
Details of the Burglary Incident
The complainant, who operates the shop and resides in a rented accommodation within the same locality, reported that he had securely closed both the shop and his house around 9:30 PM on February 21 before departing for his rented dwelling. Upon returning to the premises the following day at approximately 11:15 AM, he discovered that the residence had been forcibly entered. The burglars had allegedly made off with a substantial haul, including gold jewellery, diamond jewellery, silver articles, and a significant amount of cash.
Following the discovery, a formal case was registered at the Janakpuri police station, prompting an immediate investigation into the matter.
Police Investigation and Arrests
According to DCP (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar, the investigative team employed a combination of manual intelligence gathering and technical surveillance to track down the suspects. A crucial tip-off received on February 24 led police to two minor suspects, who were subsequently apprehended near Possangipur park.
During interrogation, the juveniles provided information that directed authorities to their adult accomplice, identified as Divyansh Sharma, a resident of Possangipur village. Sharma was promptly arrested in connection with the crime.
Recovery of Stolen Valuables
From the possession of the accused, police have successfully recovered a significant portion of the stolen items. This includes approximately 650 grams of gold jewellery, around 3 kilograms of silver articles, and cash amounting to roughly Rs 7 lakh. The total estimated value of these recovered valuables aligns with the reported Rs 1.2 crore figure from the burglary.
Additionally, law enforcement officials have seized the motorcycle allegedly used by the perpetrators to commit the offence, further strengthening the case against them.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to combat property crimes in the region, particularly those involving juvenile offenders. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to ensure all aspects of the burglary are thoroughly examined.
