Tragic Bus Fire in Delhi Claims Life of 25-Year-Old Helper
A devastating fire inside a parked bus in West Delhi's Vikaspuri area has resulted in the tragic death of a 25-year-old helper, who was found charred beyond recognition in the early hours of Sunday. The incident, which occurred near a fish market and a drain adjoining Krishi Apartments, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to the Delhi Police, they received an emergency PCR call at the Vikaspuri Police Station around 12:33 am reporting a bus engulfed in flames. Patrolling teams rushed to the scene and attempted to gain access to the vehicle. Two fire tenders were promptly deployed and managed to bring the blaze under control after a strenuous effort.
Once the flames were extinguished, authorities discovered the horrifying remains of a man inside the bus. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sharma, a 25-year-old native of Jharkhand who worked as a helper. Preliminary investigations suggest that Sharma, who often slept inside the bus at night, may have lit incense sticks to ward off mosquitoes, inadvertently triggering the fire.
Police Investigation and Statements
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar provided crucial insights into the case. "Sharma worked as a helper and used to sleep inside the bus at night. It is learnt that he often burned incense sticks inside the vehicle to ward off mosquitoes," he stated. The police have emphasized that, based on current evidence, no foul play is suspected in this tragic incident.
The bus involved is a Tata model bearing a Haryana registration number and was operating in association with Uber. The owner, identified as Vijay Kumar, has been cooperating with the investigation. Police noted that several other buses owned by Kumar were parked nearby, where drivers and helpers typically sleep overnight.
Post-Incident Procedures and Legal Actions
Following the discovery, Sharma's body was carefully shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital. It has been preserved in the mortuary to undergo a comprehensive post-mortem examination, which will determine the exact cause of death. The police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, with further investigation actively underway.
Authorities have confirmed that no individuals present at the scene or associated with the bus have raised any suspicions regarding the circumstances of Sharma's death. This tragic event highlights the precarious living conditions faced by many workers in the transportation industry, who often resort to sleeping in their vehicles due to lack of alternative accommodations.
The local community and authorities are now reflecting on safety measures to prevent such incidents in the future, as the investigation continues to uncover more details about this heartbreaking loss of life in the heart of Delhi.
