New Delhi: In a prestigious ceremony marking Republic Day, thirty-three officers from the Delhi Police and thirty-one officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) were honored with medals for their exceptional bravery and distinguished service. The awards recognize outstanding contributions to law enforcement and public safety across various challenging operations and investigations.
President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service
Among the CBI officers, six individuals were bestowed with the highly coveted President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. This elite group includes joint director Chandrasekar Venupillai, who supervised the high-profile investigation into the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. His leadership was instrumental in securing the conviction of the main accused within months of filing the chargesheet, demonstrating remarkable efficiency and dedication.
Other recipients of the President's Medal from the CBI were Amit Srivastava, superintendent of police; Mukesh Sharma, additional superintendent of police; Pramod Kumar Yati, sub-inspector; Chaman Lal, assistant sub-inspector; and Ramu Golla, head constable. Each of these officers has shown exemplary commitment to their duties, contributing significantly to the agency's investigative successes.
Police Medal for Meritorious Service
An additional twenty-five CBI officers received the Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Notable awardees in this category include 2007-batch IPS officer Venkata Subba Reddy Chinnakondu, joint director of CBI, and his batchmate Sadanand Shankarrao Date, who has transitioned from deputy inspector general to inspector general within the agency. Their careers reflect sustained excellence and leadership in federal law enforcement.
Other CBI personnel honored with the Meritorious Service Medal include Manmohan Sharma, deputy legal advisor; additional superintendents of police Baidyanath Samal and Kailash Sahu; eight deputy superintendents of police; one inspector; one programmer; one office superintendent; one assistant sub-inspector; five head constables; and three constables. This diverse group highlights the broad spectrum of roles within the CBI that contribute to its operational effectiveness.
Delhi Police Recognitions
From the Delhi Police, fourteen officers were awarded the Medal for Gallantry, recognizing acts of courage in the line of duty. Two officers received the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service, while seventeen were conferred with the Medal for Meritorious Service. These awards underscore the Delhi Police's commitment to maintaining law and order in the national capital.
Notable Achievements
Joint commissioner of police (transport) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere was honored with the Medal for Meritorious Service for his leadership in institutional reforms. His initiatives focused on modernizing police infrastructure, capacity building, and improving operational efficiency. Dumbere's community outreach efforts have strengthened police-citizen collaboration, enhancing intelligence gathering and public cooperation.
During his tenure as deputy commissioner of police in the north-west and south-west districts of Delhi, Dumbere effectively managed complex law and order situations and supervised sensitive investigations, demonstrating adept crisis management skills.
Inspector Krishan Kumar of the crime branch received the gallantry medal for his role in apprehending Vicky alias Kartoos, a notorious arms supplier involved in extortion cases in Dwarka North and Bindapur, as well as a murder case in Rajasthan. Kumar's teamwork and investigative prowess led to the successful capture of this dangerous criminal, contributing to public safety.
