Massive Inheritance Battle Erupts Over Businessman's Will

The Delhi High Court has stepped into a high-stakes inheritance dispute involving the family of late businessman Sunjay Kapur, with assets estimated at a staggering Rs 30,000 crore at the center of the controversy. The court has sought a response from Priya Kapur, Sunjay's wife, following a plea filed by actor Karisma Kapoor's children seeking inspection of their father's alleged original will.

Children Challenge Will's Authenticity

On November 11, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, Sunjay's children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor, moved an application before the Joint Registrar requesting to examine the disputed will dated March 21, 2025. The document reportedly leaves almost the entire estate to Priya Kapur, sparking what has become a bitter legal battle over the inheritance.

The plaintiffs have made serious allegations against Priya Kapur, claiming the will is forged and fabricated. They assert that the signatures on the document do not belong to their father and were allegedly forged by Priya in collusion with the attesting witnesses. The children have presented multiple grounds for their suspicion, pointing to discrepancies in metadata, inconsistencies in the testator's address, gender references, and contradictions with earlier legal instruments.

Legal Wrangling Intensifies

Priya Kapur and co-defendant Shraddha Suri Marwah have opposed the inspection request, leading to the current court proceedings. The legal battle has taken on emotional dimensions, with Karisma's children describing Priya as a greedy Cinderella stepmother in their court submissions, drawing parallels to the famous fairytale where the stepmother mistreats her stepdaughter.

Meanwhile, Priya's legal counsel has dismissed the children's claims as bogus and baseless. They argue that the application questioning the signature's authenticity was filed only after they raised this defense. In a significant development, Priya informed the court that the actor's children have already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.

The court is simultaneously hearing arguments on an interim injunction application filed by Karisma's children seeking to prevent Priya from alienating them from Sunjay's assets. In an earlier directive, the high court had asked Priya to submit a comprehensive list of Kapur's assets.

The next hearing in this high-profile case is scheduled for November 20, where the legal battle over one of India's largest inheritance disputes will continue to unfold.
