New Delhi: Police suspect that the two armed robbers involved in the Rs 1.5-crore heist in north Delhi’s Sarai Rohilla last Wednesday may have fled towards Rajasthan. Multiple teams have been sent to the state to conduct raids.
Investigation Progress
Police have detained a few people for questioning, but no arrest has been made. Investigators have come across a phone number linked to a possible suspect, but the device is switched off, said sources.
Insider Involvement Suspected
Police have also collected details of employees working with the businessman whose cash was being transported to determine whether any insider was involved in the robbery. It is suspected that the accused knew the routes used to transport the cash. Police also believe that the robbers were following the duo before intercepting them at an isolated place.
The Robbery Incident
Nitin and Karan, who work as cashiers for a real estate company in Paschim Vihar, were taking the cash to a business establishment in Kucha Ghasi Ram in Chandni Chowk around 2.30pm. They were travelling on a scooter.
Nitin has told investigators that while they were travelling from Ashoka Park metro station towards Inderlok, two helmeted men on a red motorcycle suddenly approached them. The suspects allegedly overtook the scooter and forced the cashiers to stop. One of the robbers then pulled out a pistol, threatened them and snatched the bag containing the cash before speeding away.
Swift Execution
Police said the entire robbery was executed within seconds, indicating that the assailants might have had precise information about the movement of the money.
