In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the national capital, a man allegedly slit his tenant's throat over a suspected affair and then walked into a police station to confess to the crime. The gruesome murder took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Shakarpur area of east Delhi.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Ravi Shankar, a 35-year-old electrician, was living in a rented accommodation with his wife and two children. The victim, Rajesh Kumar, 40, was also a tenant in the same building. According to police, Shankar suspected Kumar of having an illicit relationship with his wife.
The Murder
Around 2:30 am, Shankar allegedly attacked Kumar with a sharp-edged weapon while he was asleep. He slit Kumar's throat, causing immediate death. The victim's wife, who was sleeping next to him, woke up and raised an alarm, but it was too late. Shankar fled the scene immediately after the attack.
The Confession
In a bizarre turn of events, Shankar walked into the Shakarpur police station around 4 am and confessed to the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Priyanka Singh said that the accused has been arrested and a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
