Delhi Housemaid Arrested for Theft, Used Dogs to Deter Police

A 45-year-old housemaid accused of stealing gold jewellery and cash from a house in Shalimar Bagh was arrested after police conducted a raid at her residence. The accused, identified as Sona, had allegedly kept aggressive dogs to prevent entry, including pitbull, American bully, and hybrid breeds, making it difficult for officers to enter. During the raid, she was found hiding under quilts and was taken into custody.

Details of the Theft

The case was registered on April 19 based on a complaint by a man regarding theft by his housemaid, as stated by DCP (north west) Akanksha Yadav. During questioning, Sona disclosed that she had pledged stolen gold jewellery at multiple financial institutions to obtain loans. So far, 15 gold loan accounts linked to her have been identified. Around 2 kg of gold jewellery has been traced to multiple banks.

Recovery and Investigation

Police said her bank account has been frozen and efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen items. A sum of Rs 1 lakh has also been recovered at her instance. The investigation is ongoing to trace all stolen goods and identify any accomplices.
