Delhi man gets 10 years for raping sister-in-law

A court in Faridabad on Saturday sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his sister-in-law. The convict was also fined Rs 1 lakh by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Purushottam Kumar.

Incident Details

According to the police, the victim lived with her husband in a rented house in Faridabad. She filed a complaint in 2022, stating that while her in-laws lived in Delhi, her brother-in-law was a regular visitor to their home.

In January 2021, the convict called the woman's husband to Delhi on the pretext of some work. Shortly after the husband left, the convict arrived at the woman's home and raped her. The victim later informed her husband about the assault.

Attempts to Hush Up

The police reported that family members tried to suppress the matter and forced the victim into a compromise. She filed a police complaint only one and a half years later.

Legal aid lawyer Ravindra Gupta stated that there were 16 witnesses during the trial.

The court's verdict underscores the seriousness of sexual assault crimes and the importance of justice for victims.
