Double Arrest in East Delhi Park Shooting Case
New Delhi witnessed a dramatic police operation on Monday resulting in the arrest of a 22-year-old man and the apprehension of a minor for allegedly opening fire at a man inside a park in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri area. The victim sustained minor injuries in the brazen daylight attack that has raised concerns about public safety in the capital.
The Incident and Immediate Aftermath
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Abhishek Dhania, the shooting occurred when the prime accused, identified as Ankush, entered the park from the south gate brandishing a pistol. Ankush fired a single shot at the victim before making his escape toward Central Market, where his juvenile associate was waiting with a motorcycle ready for their getaway.
Police immediately registered a case at the Kalyanpuri police station and launched an intensive investigation. During their probe, officers uncovered that Ankush was allegedly involved in another firing incident earlier the same day, this time targeting a man named Sombir near Mandoli Jail. Investigators revealed that Sombir maintains close associations with local criminal figure Nitin Pehlwan, adding another layer to the complex case.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Delhi Police formed three special teams to track down the perpetrators. Their efforts paid off quickly when officers intercepted Ankush and the minor suspect while they were attempting to flee Delhi on the same motorcycle used in the Kalyanpuri crime. The timely intervention prevented their escape from the city.
During the arrest, police recovered a country-made pistol from Ankush. Both suspects were taken into custody, with the minor being detained separately in accordance with juvenile justice protocols. The motorcycle used as their getaway vehicle was also seized as evidence.
Criminal History and Motive Revealed
Police interrogation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a verbal altercation and ongoing dispute over a woman that had occurred approximately one week prior to the incident. Both suspects confessed to this motive during questioning.
Further investigation uncovered that Ankush already has four previous criminal cases registered against him, indicating a pattern of unlawful behavior. The minor's involvement adds to the concerning nature of the case, highlighting issues of juvenile delinquency in the capital.
The Kalyanpuri police have confirmed that further investigation is underway to uncover any additional connections or criminal activities involving the arrested individuals. The case continues to develop as authorities piece together the full scope of the events leading to Monday's shooting.
