Delhi Police have successfully apprehended a young man suspected of being behind a spate of residential burglaries across the Dwarka district. The arrest led to the recovery of a significant cache of stolen gold, silver jewellery, and mobile phones.
How the Investigation Unfolded
The case first came to the fore on December 12, when a woman residing in Uttam Nagar approached the police. She filed a formal complaint stating that precious gold and silver jewellery had been stolen from her home after a rear window was forcibly broken open. Following her complaint, a case was officially registered at the Bindapur police station.
Officers immediately began scouring CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime. The footage revealed a masked individual entering and later leaving the complainant's residence. Police teams diligently tracked the suspect's movements, though the initial trail went cold near Vishwas Park. Undeterred, investigators shared the footage with their network of local informers, who played a crucial role in identifying the man as Ram, a resident of Bindapur.
The Arrest and Recovery
"Based on manual and technical surveillance, the accused was found to be active during night hours in the Dabri area," stated DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh. After conducting multiple raids at his suspected hideouts, police received a specific tip-off about Ram's whereabouts.
On Wednesday evening, a police team laid a trap at a park in Dwarka's Sector 3. The suspect was apprehended following a brief chase. A search of his person yielded a substantial haul of stolen goods, including:
- A gold locket and chain
- A gold ring and four nose rings
- Four pairs of silver payal (anklets)
- Three pairs of silver toe rings and a silver kamarband (waistband)
- Five silver coins
- Five stolen mobile phones
Criminal History and Charges
Police investigations revealed that the arrested individual, identified as a first-time offender, is allegedly linked to a total of eight cases of burglary and house theft. These cases are registered across police stations in Bindapur, Dabri, and Uttam Nagar. His arrest is expected to bring relief to multiple affected households in the district and help solve several pending theft investigations.
