The Delhi police have arrested two individuals accused of pickpocketing tourists in the Paharganj area using a distraction-based scheme, officials confirmed on Monday.
Accused Identified
The suspects have been identified as Aayush alias Aaru and Krish, both residents of Multani Dhanda in Paharganj.
Incident Details
According to police, the case dates back to June 2, when a 29-year-old tourist from Andhra Pradesh reported that two men deliberately bumped into him near the DESU Booth at Under Pul, Paharganj, around 9 pm. The duo stole Rs 13,000 from him before fleeing the scene.
An e-FIR was registered at Nabi Karim Police Station, leading to the formation of an investigation team.
Arrest and Confession
Through sustained fieldwork and secret information, the police arrested the two accused from Multani Dhanda on June 13. During interrogation, the duo allegedly admitted that they primarily targeted tourists visiting Paharganj. Their modus operandi involved deliberately shoving or colliding with unsuspecting victims to distract them, then swiftly picking their pockets and escaping.
Police said the accused claimed to have spent the stolen money on addiction-related expenses and other personal needs.
A further investigation into the matter is underway.
