Delhi Police Arrests Aviation Director and Dhaba Owner in Brigadier Assault Case
In a significant development, Delhi Police has apprehended two individuals in connection with the violent assault on a serving Brigadier and his son in Southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar area. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, has sparked outrage and raised questions about public safety and police response.
Details of the Accused
The arrested men have been identified as Satender, also known as Sonu, aged 49, and Sanjay Sharma, aged 56. Both are residents of Mehram Nagar. According to police reports, Satender holds a directorial position at Chaudhary Aviation Pvt Ltd, a company specializing in aviation services such as chartered flights, cargo operations, and the sale and purchase of aircraft and parts. In contrast, Sanjay Sharma operates a local dhaba in the vicinity.
The offending Mercedes vehicle involved in the assault has been seized by authorities, marking a crucial step in the investigation.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Assault
The incident unfolded at approximately 9:45 PM on Saturday when the Brigadier's family was out for a stroll in their neighborhood. The Brigadier's wife, who was walking slightly behind her husband and son, noticed two men consuming alcohol inside a car parked near the society gate. Upon objecting to their behavior and requesting them to stop, the family faced immediate hostility.
The woman alleged in her complaint that the men misbehaved, used abusive language, and made remarks that outraged her modesty, escalating the confrontation. In response, the family dialed 112, the police helpline, and a PCR vehicle arrived at the scene by 10:15 PM.
Alleged Police Inaction and Escalation
Despite the presence of police personnel, the situation deteriorated further. The woman claimed that the car occupants conversed with the officers and even had them speak to someone over the phone, after which no action was taken against the two men. She also accused the PCR personnel of behaving improperly during the interaction.
Shortly thereafter, two additional cars arrived, and seven to eight men, allegedly associates of the initial offenders, emerged. They threw my son to the ground and started beating him, the woman stated, resulting in multiple injuries for the young man. When the Brigadier intervened to protect his son, he was surrounded by two to three men and assaulted, sustaining bruises, including on his elbow.
The son reported that one of the assailants pointed at him just before the attack commenced. The assault continued for approximately 20 minutes in full view of the PCR personnel, who did not intervene, according to the complaint. Throughout the violence, the accused allegedly continued to pass vulgar remarks at the woman as she tried to shield her husband and son.
Legal Action and FIR Registration
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Vasant Vihar police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
