An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the Delhi Police sustained injuries after he and his team were attacked by two alleged burglars armed with a knife during a raid in West Delhi's Hari Nagar locality on Sunday. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning as police attempted to intercept suspects involved in a theft case.

Police Team Intercepts Burglary in Progress

According to police officials, around 5 am on Sunday, ASI Vinod, head constable Ravi, and constables Devender and Abhishek from the anti-snatching and burglary cell of the outer district reached a house in Shiv Nagar while tracking suspects wanted in a theft case registered at Rani Bagh police station. The two accused were reportedly riding a motorcycle that had been stolen from Adarsh Nagar earlier.

The suspects were in the process of committing a burglary at the Shiv Nagar house when the police team intercepted them. During the attempt to overpower the accused individuals, the burglars attacked ASI Vinod and constable Abhishek with a knife. Vinod sustained a significant stab injury above his right eyebrow during the violent confrontation.

Police Overpower Suspects Despite Violent Resistance

Despite the sudden knife attack, the police team demonstrated remarkable courage and managed to overpower and detain both suspects at the scene. The authorities seized the stolen motorcycle along with various tools that were allegedly being used in the attempted burglary operation.

The two accused have been identified as Babloo Singh and Dharam Singh, who claim to be residents of Nangloi area, though police verification of their residential claims is still pending. The injured ASI Vinod received immediate medical attention for his stab wound, while constable Abhishek escaped with minor injuries during the altercation.

Ongoing Investigation and Police Response

Police officials have confirmed that both suspects are now in custody and facing multiple charges related to the attempted burglary, assault on police personnel, and possession of stolen property. The investigation has revealed that the suspects were actively engaged in criminal activities when intercepted by the police team.
