The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a major interstate arms smuggling syndicate operating in the national capital. In a coordinated operation, nine individuals were apprehended, and a substantial cache of illegal weapons and ammunition was seized from their possession. The arrests were made following a tip-off regarding the movement of a large consignment of firearms intended for distribution in Delhi and nearby regions.
Details of the Operation
The police team, led by the Special Cell, conducted raids at multiple locations across the city. The suspects were caught red-handed while exchanging a consignment of sophisticated pistols and cartridges. Preliminary investigations reveal that the syndicate had been sourcing weapons from illicit manufacturers in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, using courier services to transport them to Delhi. The kingpin, identified as a resident of the Ghazipur area, has a criminal background and was previously involved in several cases of illegal arms trade.
Recoveries Made
From the possession of the accused, law enforcement officials recovered 25 semi-automatic pistols, over 200 live cartridges, and a significant amount of cash. Additionally, mobile phones and documents related to the illegal trade were confiscated. The police are now probing the network's links to other criminal outfits, including those involved in extortion and contract killings.
Modus Operandi
According to senior police officers, the syndicate used a well-organized supply chain. Weapons were manufactured in small, clandestine factories in Madhya Pradesh and then transported to Uttar Pradesh, where they were stored in warehouses. From there, the arms were smuggled into Delhi via trains and buses, often disguised as legal goods. The accused would then supply these weapons to local criminals at inflated prices.
Legal Proceedings
All nine accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code. They have been remanded to police custody for further interrogation. The Delhi Police have assured that they will continue to crack down on illegal arms networks to ensure the safety of citizens. Investigations are ongoing to trace the entire supply chain and identify other members of the syndicate who may still be at large.
