In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police has busted two terror modules allegedly linked to notorious gangster Shahzad Bhatti, arresting seven individuals and recovering a cache of arms and explosives. The operation, conducted in the national capital, underscores the growing nexus between organized crime and terrorism.
Details of the Operation
According to senior police officials, the arrests were made following intelligence inputs about the modules planning to carry out attacks in the Delhi-NCR region. The accused were identified as members of Bhatti's network, which has been involved in extortion, contract killings, and now terrorist activities. Police recovered several pistols, live cartridges, and explosives from their possession.
Modus Operandi and Links
The modules were operating independently but were coordinated by Bhatti, who is currently lodged in a Punjab jail. Investigations revealed that the group used encrypted messaging apps to communicate and had acquired weapons from across the border. "The modules were in advanced stages of planning attacks on high-profile targets," said a police spokesperson. "We have foiled their nefarious designs."
Impact on Security
The dismantling of these modules is seen as a significant victory for security agencies. It highlights the challenge posed by criminal-terror networks that exploit porous borders and technological loopholes. The Delhi Police have registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and are probing further links of the accused.
