Delhi Police Head Constable Among Three Arrested for Wedding Function Murder in Wazirabad

A Delhi Police head constable and two other men have been apprehended for their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man following a dispute at a wedding function in north Delhi's Wazirabad area, as confirmed by officials on Monday.

Details of the Incident and Arrests

The accused head constable, identified as Parvesh, was stationed with the Traffic Unit in the northeast district's Bhajanpura circle and had been a member of the police force since 2008. Authorities reported that the Wazirabad police station received information regarding a man with a gunshot wound who had been admitted to the Trauma Centre in Timarpur. Tragically, medical professionals declared him deceased during treatment.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the investigating officer discovered that the victim, identified as Ashish from Baghpat district in Uttar Pradesh, had been brought in by his younger brother, Anuj. Doctors confirmed Ashish's death at the facility.

Background and Alleged Motive

In his statement to the police, Anuj revealed that he, along with his brother and other acquaintances, had attended a neighbor's wedding in Wazirabad. He noted that Ashish was employed as a Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Enforcement Department.

Anuj further alleged that Parvesh, who hails from the same native village, attended the function with his brother Sandeep and brothers-in-law Vipin and Vikash. According to Anuj, Parvesh suspected that his wife was involved in a relationship with Ashish, which had fostered hostility between them. "Three to four months ago, Parvesh had complained to our father regarding the matter. Though the issue was resolved at that time, he continued to threaten my brother," Anuj stated in his testimony.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Shooting

Anuj claimed that as they were preparing to depart for their village after the wedding function, Parvesh and his associates intercepted Ashish. The group allegedly assaulted him with the butt of a pistol and subsequently shot him in the chest. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene.

Ashish was initially transported to a nearby private medical facility, from where he was referred to the Trauma Centre. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries, according to police reports.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

A crime team, accompanied by a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit, examined the scene and collected pertinent evidence. A formal case was registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act.

During the investigation, Parvesh, his brother Sandeep, and his brother-in-law Vipin were taken into custody. Police confirmed that the licensed pistol allegedly used in the crime has been recovered. However, another accused individual, Vikash, remains at large and is currently absconding.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns regarding law enforcement conduct and interpersonal conflicts escalating into violence, particularly in social settings like weddings.
