Delhi Police Denies Political Interference Allegations, Takes Action Against Inspector

The Delhi Police has firmly rejected allegations of political interference in the release of criminals, following the circulation of a controversial video on social media. The video featured a police inspector claiming that offenders are freed due to pressure from public representatives. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav stated that the remarks were "irresponsible" and do not reflect the official stance of the police force.

Officer Identified and Disciplinary Measures Implemented

The officer in question has been identified as Inspector (Law and Order) Rajeev, who was serving as the officiating Station House Officer (SHO) of Bharat Nagar police station at the time. In response to the incident, Delhi Police has taken strict disciplinary action. Inspector Rajeev has been removed from his post as SHO and transferred to District Lines with immediate effect. The police department emphasized that appropriate further action will be taken in accordance with established rules and regulations.

DCP Yadav clarified in an official statement: "A video circulating on social media contains certain statements attributed to a police officer alleging that criminals involved in narcotics and other offences are released on the directions of the public representatives. It is clarified that during a public interaction, some irresponsible comments were made by Inspector Rajeev, which were not based on facts."

Details of the Viral Video and Controversy

The controversy erupted after a video surfaced online showing Inspector Rajeev speaking to a group of women who had approached him with complaints about drug peddling in their locality. In the clip, the officer is heard advising the women to raise their grievances with the "CM and the MLA." He alleged that even when police arrest offenders, they are released after intervention from public representatives, stating, "We catch them, but they go to the CM, they go to the MLAs... and they get (release) orders from there. Our hands are tied."

The video was shared on social media by Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, amplifying the controversy. It also shows the inspector suggesting that the complainants should protest outside the residences of political representatives instead of coming to the police station.

Police Reaffirms Commitment to Law and Zero-Tolerance Policy

DCP Yadav further emphasized that the Delhi Police functions strictly in accordance with the law, assessing each case on its merits without any external influence. She added that the force maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and that such conduct does not reflect its professional standards. The statement reiterated that the comments were made in a personal capacity and do not represent the position of the Delhi Police.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and perceptions of political interference, with the police taking swift action to address misconduct and uphold institutional integrity.
