Delhi Police Detain Suspect in Mumbai for Golf Links Heist, Probe Gang's Past Crimes

In a significant development, Delhi Police have reportedly detained a man in Mumbai in connection with a high-profile heist that occurred last week at the residence of a liquor businessman in the upscale Golf Links area of central Delhi. Sources indicate that a specialized police team conducted extensive raids in Varsova and other localities of Mumbai after the suspect, known by the nickname Guddu, made contact with an informer in northwest Delhi.

Police Tight-Lipped on Suspect's Role

The police have maintained a cautious stance, refusing to confirm whether the detained individual was directly involved in the robbery or merely an associate. However, a confidential source revealed that the man has provided crucial information about the accused perpetrators, leading to over 100 police personnel being mobilized for raids aimed at apprehending them. Authorities are optimistic about achieving a breakthrough by Monday.

Gang's History of Similar Crimes

According to a senior officer, the Tughlaq Road police station received intelligence on Saturday suggesting the involvement of a robber named Guddu Kamat in this case. Kamat and his gang are notorious for a similar heist in Noida last year, where they held a woman hostage in her Sector 61 home and looted cash and jewelry valued at over Rs 50 lakh. In that incident, one of the gang members had infiltrated the household by working as a cook for three days prior to the crime, facilitating the entry of others.

Delhi and Noida police had previously arrested Kamat along with his aides, including Amit Kumar Rawat, Rahul, and Raman Kamar, all hailing from Bihar. Police now suspect that the same gang may be responsible for the recent Golf Links heist. Sources describe Kamat as a veteran criminal, involved in three hostage-robbery cases in Naraina, Amar Colony, and southeast Delhi back in 2015.

Ongoing Investigations and Security Measures

To track down the suspects, two police teams have been dispatched to Kamat's hometown in Supaul, Bihar, to verify his whereabouts and determine if he and his associates were out on bail. In response to the incident, the police chief has directed the area Deputy Commissioner of Police and Special Commissioner of Police to enhance law and order efforts and intensify patrolling in the region. Additionally, Police Control Room units have been instructed to maintain a visible presence to deter further criminal activities.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges in urban security and the interconnected nature of criminal networks across regions like Delhi and Mumbai. The police's proactive measures and cross-state coordination underscore their commitment to solving this brazen crime and ensuring public safety.
