Delhi Police Launches Major Pre-Holi Crackdown: 'Operation Aaghat 4.0' Nets 4,000 Detentions
In a decisive move to ensure public safety during the upcoming Holi festival, Delhi Police executed a two-day intensive drive codenamed "Operation Aaghat 4.0" on March 1 and 2. The operation targeted criminal elements across the national capital, resulting in the detention of nearly 4,000 individuals, with more than 975 placed in preventive custody and formally charged.
Strategic Crackdown on Criminal Networks
Joint Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Jain, addressing the media, emphasized that the operation was specifically designed to clamp down on bootleggers, drug peddlers, and habitual offenders who might exploit the festive atmosphere of Holi to engage in illegal activities. "Operation Aaghat 4.0 was launched to crack down on criminal elements ahead of the Holi festival, preventing them from committing any unlawful acts under the guise of celebrations," Jain stated. He highlighted the operation's success, noting it served as a strong deterrent message to potential wrongdoers.
Comprehensive Law Enforcement Actions
The crackdown yielded substantial results across multiple legal fronts:
- Substances Act: Over 220 arrests were made under this act, targeting drug-related offenses.
- Arms Act: Police registered 33 cases, seizing 35 firearms and 23 knives to curb violent crime.
- Delhi Excise Act: Approximately 60 bootlegging cases were filed, including five under specific Delhi provisions, with over 19,000 quarters of illicit liquor confiscated to halt illegal sales before Holi.
- Public Nuisance: More than 550 individuals faced prosecution for drinking in public spaces.
- Vehicle Seizures: Under the DP Act, authorities impounded over 475 vehicles linked to criminal activities.
- Property Crimes: Six property offenders were apprehended, leading to the recovery of nine motorcycles and 20 stolen mobile phones.
Additional legal actions were taken under the BNS Act and the Gambling Act, showcasing a multi-pronged approach to law enforcement.

Jain described the drive as a preventive step aimed at maintaining order during Holi. "This major action had only one objective: to send a clear warning to criminals before Holi. The police are alert and well-prepared, ensuring that no major incidents occur in Delhi during the festival," he asserted.
