In a significant crackdown, the Delhi Police Special Cell apprehended two wanted criminals following a dramatic exchange of fire in the capital's Narela area. The incident, which unfolded on the night of December 24, 2025, led to the recovery of a substantial cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
The Encounter and Arrest
The operation was carried out by a team from the Special Cell's Northern Range, acting on specific intelligence. The police had received information about the movements of two individuals, identified as Rohit, alias Raja, and Deepak, who were wanted in several criminal cases. Both men were reportedly involved in serious crimes including robbery, extortion, and attempts to murder.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police team laid a trap near the Bhorgarh village in Narela. When the officers attempted to intercept the suspects, the criminals allegedly opened fire in a bid to escape. The police team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik, retaliated in self-defence. During the brief gunfight, one of the accused, Rohit, sustained a bullet injury to his leg.
Weapons and Ammunition Seized
Following the encounter and subsequent arrest of both criminals, the police conducted a search. The haul from the suspects was substantial and alarming. The recovered items included:
- Two sophisticated pistols
- Live cartridges
- Additional ammunition
The seizure of these illegal firearms has potentially averted several planned violent crimes in the National Capital Region. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the stringent Arms Act.
Background and Ongoing Investigation
Initial investigations reveal that the arrested duo, Rohit and Deepak, were not petty criminals but active members of an interstate gang. They were allegedly planning to execute a major crime in Delhi. Their arrest is considered a major success for the Delhi Police's Special Cell, which has been intensifying its drive against organized crime networks.
The injured accused, Rohit, was provided immediate medical attention and is currently under police guard at a hospital. His condition is reported to be stable. Meanwhile, Deepak is in police custody for intensive interrogation. Officials are probing their wider network, possible accomplices, and the source of the illegal weapons.
DCP Amit Kaushik commended his team for the successful and brave operation conducted with precision. He emphasized that such actions demonstrate the police force's unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of Delhi's citizens. The police have also urged the public to come forward with any information related to criminal activities, assuring confidentiality and protection.
