Delhi Police Special Cell Apprehends Lashkar Commander in Major Operation
In a significant counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Delhi Police special cell has successfully arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Shabbir Ahmed Lone from a location near the Bangladesh border, according to official sources. The operation, which culminated after an intense two-month cat-and-mouse pursuit, was closely monitored by Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha.
Details of the Operation and Lone's Terror Network
A dedicated special team, led by Additional Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha, Assistant Commissioner Lalit Negi, and Inspector Sunil Rajain, had been meticulously tracking Lone. Their investigation revealed his pivotal role in recruiting youths for terrorist activities across multiple Indian cities, including Delhi, Kolkata, and Tamil Nadu.
Lone is no stranger to law enforcement. He was previously arrested by Delhi Police on terror charges back in 2007. After securing bail in 2019, he fled to Bangladesh, where he established a hideout near Dhaka and began operating a Lashkar terror cell. This move turned him into a persistent headache for Indian security agencies and Delhi's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), as he orchestrated activities from across the border.
Ongoing Hunt for Other Terror Kingpins with Delhi Links
However, Shabbir Ahmed Lone is not the only high-value target with connections to Delhi that security agencies are actively pursuing. In a parallel effort, agencies are aggressively working to locate Sheikh Sajjad Gul, another notorious figure in the terror landscape.
Gul was originally arrested from Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi in 2002. Following his conviction in 2003, he was lodged in Tihar Jail for over a decade, serving a 10-year sentence before being released in 2017. Shortly after his release, Gul fled to Pakistan. Intelligence reports now indicate that he is at the helm of Lashkar-e-Taiba's new front, known as The Resistance Front (TRF). This group has been implicated in several terror strikes, including the infamous Pahalgam attack.
The arrest of Lone marks a critical victory in India's ongoing fight against cross-border terrorism, but it underscores the continuous and evolving threat posed by such networks. Security forces remain vigilant as they work to dismantle these operations and bring other fugitives to justice.
