Delhi Police Issues Stern Warning Against Social Media Misinformation in Uttam Nagar Lynching Case

In a significant development, Delhi Police has issued a firm warning regarding the spread of misinformation on social media platforms concerning the recent Uttam Nagar lynching incident that occurred during Holi celebrations. The police department has made it clear that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found circulating false information about the case.

Clarification on Juvenile Involvement

The warning specifically addresses misleading claims circulating on various social media handles suggesting that a minor had gone missing from the Uttam Nagar area in connection with the incident. Police authorities have clarified that the juvenile referenced in these posts was actually an accused in the case who had been apprehended and subsequently sent to an observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board.

"There is a lot of misinformation regarding the missing report of a minor from Uttam Nagar," stated DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh. "It is clarified that two juveniles were apprehended in this case. One of the juveniles was apprehended on March 5, and the news articles circulating pertain to this missing juvenile."

Police Monitoring Social Media Platforms

Delhi Police emphasized that spreading false rumors constitutes a criminal offense under Indian law and could result in serious legal consequences. The department has implemented enhanced surveillance measures to monitor social media activity related to the case.

"Any attempt to spread rumors or misinformation is being closely monitored through regular social media patrolling," added the officer. "Social media handles on platforms such as Facebook, X and Instagram are under surveillance. Those attempting to disturb the peaceful atmosphere will be promptly booked."

Current Situation and Legal Framework

Police authorities confirmed that the situation in Uttam Nagar remains under control, with adequate security measures implemented on the ground to maintain public order. Regarding the investigation itself, fourteen individuals have been arrested in connection with the lynching case.
