Delhi Property Dealer Murder Case: House Help and Weapon Supplier Arrested
In a significant development in the Chhawla shooting case, Delhi Police have made two arrests, including the victim's house help, for allegedly concealing a pistol suspected to have been used in the incident. The arrests come a month after the 42-year-old property dealer was found shot dead inside his car in southwest Delhi's Chhawla area.
Arrests Made in Connection with the Crime
The accused have been identified as Sonu, 35, who worked as the victim's house help, and Manit, 36, believed to have supplied the weapon. Police have arrested them for tampering with the crime scene and under provisions of the Arms Act. Investigators are now examining whether the death could be a case of suicide, adding a new dimension to the probe.
Details of the Incident and Investigation
The incident was reported on March 6, when police received a PCR call around 1 pm from a passer-by who heard a gunshot and noticed a car parked in a field. The property dealer was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Initially, police suspected the killing might be linked to a failed extortion attempt.
A senior police officer stated that CCTV footage from the area did not show any immediate suspicious activity. During the investigation, it was found that shortly before the incident, the deceased called both his associate and Sonu. The two later reached the spot and discovered him with a gunshot wound.
Key Evidence and Suspects' Roles
While the victim was being taken to the hospital, Sonu allegedly stepped out of the car and later kept a pistol he claimed to have found inside the vehicle on his scooter, according to police. Subsequent CCTV analysis showed Sonu in possession of the weapon, but he failed to explain its source during questioning.
Further inquiry revealed that Manit allegedly supplied the pistol to the property dealer. "He was also arrested and claimed during interrogation that he had procured the weapon from a person in Punjab," a police officer said. The role of at least one more person is being probed as the investigation continues.
