Tragic Death of Delhi Police SWAT Commando Sparks Outrage Over Domestic Violence

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the capital, a 27-year-old Delhi Police SWAT commando, who was four months pregnant, died after being brutally assaulted with a dumbbell at her residence in west Delhi. The victim, identified as Kajal Chaudhary, was posted with the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and succumbed to her injuries on January 27, following a five-day battle for life at a hospital in Ghaziabad.

Horrific Details of the Assault Emerge

The alleged assault took place on January 22 at her home in Mohan Garden. According to her brother, Nikhil, a constable posted at Parliament Street Police Station, the sequence of events began with a distressing phone call from her husband, Ankur, a clerk with the Ministry of Defence posted in Delhi Cantonment. Nikhil recounted that during a conversation with his sister, Ankur became enraged, snatched the phone, and chillingly stated, "Put this call on recording, it will be useful as police evidence. I am killing your sister. Police won’t be able to do anything." The call ended abruptly after he heard her screams.

Barely five minutes later, Nikhil received another call from Ankur, informing him that Kajal was dead and urging them to come to the hospital. The family rushed to the scene with police personnel, where they found Ankur and his family already present. Nikhil described the sight of his sister's injuries as something "not even an enemy" would inflict, alleging she sustained severe head injuries and multiple wounds across her body.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment and Prolonged Torture

The family has accused Ankur and his relatives of prolonged torture and dowry harassment, which reportedly continued even during Kajal's pregnancy. Her father, Rakesh, claimed persistent dowry demands, stating they had given a Bullet bike, gold jewellery, and cash at the wedding, but were told their son would have received a car if he had married someone else. Despite Kajal later arranging a car, the harassment allegedly did not stop.

Kajal's mother revealed that the family spent around Rs 20 lakh on the marriage, taking loans, and that Ankur had also taken Rs 5 lakh from Kajal. She emotionally expressed, "She suffered a lot. I want justice. He is a monster." Nikhil further alleged that Kajal was made to do household chores like cooking and washing despite her pregnancy, and recalled an earlier incident five months ago where she was slapped by her husband, who then apologized and swore on their child not to repeat it.

Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Ankur was arrested hours after the incident and initially booked for attempt to murder. Following Kajal's death, the charges are set to be converted to murder. A case has been registered at Mohan Garden police station based on Nikhil's complaint. Police sources indicated that financial stress and domestic disputes were among the factors behind the conflict, with the couple having taken loans and often arguing over finances and household expenses.

According to a Delhi Police officer, on January 22, Ankur allegedly first banged Kajal's head against a door frame before attacking her with a dumbbell. The couple, who had known each other since their college days in Panipat and married on November 23, 2023, had shifted to a rented accommodation in Mohan Garden in December 2024 due to frequent disputes at their native home in Ganaur, Haryana, but tensions reportedly continued.

Aftermath and Family's Resolve

The couple leaves behind a one-and-a-half-year-old son, who is currently with his maternal grandparents. Nikhil stated that the child is unaware of the incident, and the family has decided to raise him, planning to inform him when he is mature enough to understand such matters. The family's attempts to admit Kajal to several hospitals were met with minimal hope for survival before she was finally admitted to the Ghaziabad hospital where she later died.

This tragic case highlights severe issues of domestic violence and dowry harassment in urban settings, raising questions about safety and support systems for victims. The Delhi Police are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served in this heart-wrenching incident.
