NEW DELHI: A tempo driver has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly striking a woman pedestrian and crashing into a road divider on the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) near Bawana, an official confirmed on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The accident occurred around 6 PM on May 26 in Sector-5 of Bawana. Police received a report at the Narela Industrial Area police station in outer north Delhi, prompting a team to rush to the scene, the official said.
Initial investigations revealed that the tempo first hit the woman pedestrian before colliding with the divider.
Victim and Medical Response
The injured woman, identified as Shakuntala (35), a resident of Choti Holambi in Delhi, was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital for advanced treatment, police stated.
Legal Action
The offending vehicle was impounded, and the driver was apprehended by personnel from the Metro Vihar police post shortly after the incident. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
