Delhi Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Anand Parbat
In a tragic incident in central Delhi, a 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly driving a truck that collided with six vehicles, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old man. The accident occurred in the Anand Parbat area on Saturday, causing widespread panic and disruption.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the incident took place around 2:35 pm on Friday. A truck with a Haryana registration number allegedly ploughed into multiple vehicles, including a car, another truck, three two-wheelers, and an e-rickshaw. The impact was severe, leading to immediate chaos in the area.
The driver of the truck fled the scene immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle. This prompted a swift response from local authorities, who launched an investigation to track down the perpetrator.
Victim Identified and Injuries Sustained
The deceased has been identified as Manjeet Singh, a resident of West Patel Nagar. At the time of the accident, Singh was riding a scooter and sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead shortly after admission, highlighting the severity of the injuries sustained in the multi-vehicle pile-up.
Police Investigation and Arrest
During the investigation, police analysed CCTV footage from the area and gathered local inputs, which proved crucial in identifying the accused. The suspect was identified as Mohit Dalal, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana.
Authorities subsequently traced and apprehended Dalal, and the offending truck was seized as part of the evidence collection process. Legal proceedings were initiated promptly following the arrest.
However, in a recent development, the accused was granted bail after the initial legal steps were taken. This has raised questions about the judicial process in such serious cases involving fatal accidents.
Broader Implications and Public Safety Concerns
This incident underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and traffic management in urban areas like Delhi. The use of CCTV and local intelligence in solving the case demonstrates the importance of technological tools in modern policing.
Residents of Anand Parbat and surrounding neighborhoods have expressed alarm over the frequency of such accidents, calling for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better infrastructure to prevent future tragedies.
As the legal process continues, authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, especially in densely populated zones. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of reckless driving on public roads.
