Delivery man arrested for stalking, attempted murder in Thiruvananthapuram

In a disturbing incident from Thiruvananthapuram, the Thumba police have taken into custody a 26-year-old delivery executive for allegedly stalking and attempting to murder a woman after she repeatedly turned down his proposals for marriage. The accused, identified as Akshayjith, a native of MSK Nagar in Manacaud, worked for a private courier company.

How the Stalking and Harassment Began

According to police officials, the accused first came into contact with the victim, a homemaker, approximately two years ago. His job as a delivery personnel brought him to her residence for courier-related work. What began as a professional acquaintance soon took a dark turn. Akshayjith allegedly started harassing the woman by making frequent, unsolicited phone calls and sending messages. He reportedly proposed to her several times, but the woman clearly rejected all his advances.

The Escalation to Death Threats and Violent Attack

Frustrated by the rejections, the accused's behavior escalated dangerously. He began issuing death threats to the woman. The situation reached a critical point on Monday afternoon. Police stated that Akshayjith went to the woman's house and attempted to assault her physically. When the brave woman resisted his attack, the accused tried to strangle her, putting her life in immediate danger.

Fortunately, the victim managed to raise an alarm during the struggle. Hearing her desperate screams, neighbors rushed to the spot to help. However, by the time they arrived, the accused had already fled the scene, evading immediate capture.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

Following the traumatic attack, the woman approached the Thumba police station and lodged a formal complaint detailing the entire ordeal. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police launched an investigation, traced the whereabouts of Akshayjith, and placed him under arrest.

The accused was subsequently produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Preliminary police investigations have revealed a concerning pattern, indicating that there are similar complaints filed against Akshayjith in the past. Authorities have confirmed that a further, more detailed investigation is currently underway to ascertain whether the accused is involved in other related offences.

This case has once again highlighted serious concerns about the safety of women and the potential for professional interactions to be exploited for personal harassment. The police have commended the victim's courage in resisting the attack and promptly filing the complaint, which led to the swift arrest.
