Ahead of the New Year's Eve celebrations, the Dhanbad district administration has implemented a comprehensive security plan across all major tourist and picnic destinations in the region. The move aims to ensure a safe and incident-free environment for the large influx of visitors expected during the festive period.
Enhanced Police Presence at Key Locations
Following a detailed assessment, authorities have identified locations that traditionally see massive crowds. SSP Prabhat Kumar stated that around 100 additional police personnel will be stationed across various spots. Significant deployments include nearly two dozen personnel at the popular Maithon Dam, with similar arrangements at Panchet Dam, Topchanchi Lake, and Bhatinda Falls.
The security blueprint is not limited to land. Given the proximity of many recreational areas to water bodies, the administration has proactively arranged for the deployment of divers at vulnerable locations. This measure is designed to enable a swift emergency response, particularly at Bhatinda Falls, which has witnessed drowning incidents in previous years. Additional barricading and monitoring will also prevent visitors from entering hazardous zones.
Multi-Pronged Safety Strategy
The security preparations extend beyond crowd management. Drink-and-drive checking has been intensified across the district to curb reckless driving and prevent accidents. SSP Kumar warned that strict action would be taken against violators to uphold public safety.
Furthermore, to ensure the safety of women visitors and prevent incidents of eve-teasing, women police personnel have been activated and will be mobilised at major picnic spots. Police teams have also received directives to conduct regular checks at hotels, resorts, and other establishments expecting large gatherings.

The administration's proactive steps have been welcomed by residents and visitors. Dinesh Kumar, a regular visitor planning a family trip to Maithon Dam, highlighted that safety is a primary concern during outings. He expressed that robust security arrangements would allow families to move freely and enjoy the celebrations without fear.
The focus on security is especially crucial for locations like Maithon Dam, which annually attracts a heavy rush of tourists, including many from neighbouring West Bengal, during the New Year period. The coordinated efforts aim to transform these scenic spots into secure hubs for festive enjoyment.
