Dhanbad Police Formally Arrest Accused in Brutal Murder of Debt Recovery Agent
In a significant development in a chilling murder case, the Dhanbad police have formally arrested the primary accused, Vikas Khandelwal, on Monday. This arrest comes just a day after he was taken into custody for the brutal killing of debt recovery agent Amit Kumar Mittal, also known as Amit Agrawal.
Financial Dispute Turns Deadly
According to police officials, the murder stemmed from a long-standing financial dispute. Vikas Khandelwal had borrowed a substantial sum of Rs 70 lakh from a bank several years ago to fund a business venture. Amit Kumar Mittal, working as a recovery agent, was actively pursuing Khandelwal to recover the outstanding debt. The relentless pressure from the recovery agent allegedly pushed the accused to commit the heinous crime.
Gruesome Details of the Murder Emerge
Police suspect that more individuals may be involved in the brutal murder, which occurred on Saturday. DSP (Law and Order) Naushad Alam stated that investigators are still questioning Khandelwal to pinpoint the exact day of the murder. The investigation began when the victim's wife, Sangeeta Devi, filed a complaint about her husband's abduction at the Dhanbad police station.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of Dhanbad police station officer-in-charge Manoj Pandey. This team utilized advanced technical surveillance and gathered critical inputs to trace and apprehend the accused.
Attempts to Mislead Investigation and Conceal Evidence
The police revealed horrifying details about the accused's actions after the murder. Vikas Khandelwal hid Amit Mittal's body inside the kitchen of his own house in a desperate attempt to conceal the crime. In a further effort to mislead the authorities, he disposed of the victim's mobile phone near Dhangi Pahadi, hoping to divert the investigation.
DSP Naushad Alam provided additional chilling information: "The accused meticulously planned to dispose of the body to erase all evidence and mislead the investigation. He even attempted to cut the body into pieces and had partially dismembered it. However, he could not fully execute this gruesome plan and ultimately chose to hide the body in the kitchen."
The case highlights the extreme dangers faced by debt recovery agents and underscores the lengths to which individuals might go to avoid financial obligations. The Dhanbad police continue their investigation to uncover any possible accomplices and ensure justice is served.
