Dharwad Police Crack Paramedic Murder Case, Arrest Suspect in Connection
In a significant breakthrough, the Dharwad Rural police have successfully cracked the case of a young paramedic's murder by arresting a man in this connection. The arrest was made on Thursday, bringing some closure to a tragic incident that has shocked the local community.
Arrest Made in Paramedic Murder Case
Police have taken into custody Sabir Mulla, a 21-year-old resident of Dharwad, on charges of strangulating Zakia Mulla, a 19-year-old paramedic, to death. The arrest follows a thorough investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding Zakia's death.
Details of the Crime
According to Superintendent of Police Gunjan Arya, the victim's body was discovered in a deserted area behind Karnatak University on Mansur Road. Sabir and Zakia had studied together in a paramedical course and had been in a relationship for the past three years. Discussions regarding their wedding had even taken place between both families, but differences later arose between the couple.
On Tuesday evening, Sabir allegedly took Zakia in a car, where he strangled her to death using her own scarf. After committing the crime, he dumped her body in the isolated location. The police have now remanded Sabir to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
Second Case: Exhumation of NWKRTC Driver's Body
In a separate but related development, the body of Babajan Chinnur, a 51-year-old NWKRTC driver from Bhadrapur village in Annigeri taluk, was exhumed for a postmortem examination on Wednesday. This action was taken following a complaint by his brother, Imtiaz Chinnur, who raised suspicions over Babajan's death, leading to the registration of a case of suspicious death.
Babajan, who resided in Malamaddi, Dharwad, passed away on November 11, 2025. His last rites were performed at the Bhadrapur qabristan without a postmortem. Based on orders issued by the assistant commissioner on January 21, a team of doctors, along with Dharwad Sub-Urban police and Annigeri tahsildar Manjunath Dasappanavar, conducted the exhumation and postmortem.
The samples collected during the procedure will be sent to the forensic science laboratory for further analysis, as police work to determine the exact cause of death in this case.
